Engine, Performance, and Towing Options
Silverado
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado has a wide range of engine options. They vary greatly depending on your power needs. Whether you're towing your boat to the lake for the weekend, running errands, or using it as a full-time workhorse, there's an option for you. The Silverado engine lineup includes:
- 2.7L I-4 Turbo
- 310 Horsepower
- 420 lb.-ft Torque
- 9,500 lbs. Towing
- 5.3-L V-8
- 355 Horsepower
- 383 lb.-ft Torque
- 11,200 lbs. Towing
- 6.2L V-8
- 420 Horsepower
- 460 lb.-ft Torque
- 13,300 lbs. Towing
- 3.0L Turbo-Diesel
- 277 Horsepower
- 460 lb.-ft Torque
- 13,300 lbs. Towing
Tundra
The Tundra is pretty dated when it comes to engine and performance options. The standard 5.7L V-8 puts out 381 horsepower with 401 lb.-ft of torque. At the standard package, it can tow 8,800 lbs. while the maximum tow rating can be upgraded to 10,200 lbs. The TRD Package upgrades the suspension and ride quality but leaves much to be desired under the hood, especially for the price. If you’re looking for power, versatility, and commanding towing power, the Silverado has the Tundra beat in all three categories.
Interior Space and Cargo
Silverado
One of the greatest aspects of the Silverado is its ability to be customized however you see fit. Whether you need a weekend warrior to take on camping trips, a reliable truck to drive through town, or a 24/7 monster that can tow anything and haul everything, the choice is yours. The newly updated dashboard includes a 12.3” digital gauge cluster and a ginormous center touchscreen. The High Country model comes with leather upholstery and wooden trim. All models have great headroom and legroom, even for the passengers. There’s plenty of storage space everywhere and a range of options for cabs and beds lengths.
Tundra
The Tundra has plenty of space but the outdated and plastic-laden dashboard and design leave much to be desired in a new pickup truck. There is significantly more rear-seat legroom, though, if you plan on hauling multiple adults as well as your work equipment. The 1794 Edition upgrades the interior to saddle-brown leather and suede accents, but this comes at a price. The Tundra also has oversized A-pillars that can be blinding and decrease your visibility, even to taller drivers. Storage compartments also are a bit lacking as they are deep but narrow, making it difficult to store larger items. There are three cargo-bed lengths available, as well as an extended cab model to better fit your needs.
Infotainment and Safety
Silverado
Every Silverado comes standard with an impressive touchscreen infotainment screen with all the latest features. The LT trim and other higher-up models upgrade the screen to 13.4 inches. Some of the included features are:
- Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto
- Google-Powered Voice Assistant
- Amazon Alexa
- Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot
- Super Cruise Hands-Free Driver Assist
- Electronic Transmission Range Selector
- Front Pedestrian Braking
- Intellibeam High Beam Assist
- Following Distance Indicator
Tundra
The Tundra continues its outdated technology inside the cabin with a functional infotainment system. The Entune system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and other adaptable systems and features. You do get a premium audio system with Dynamic Navigation and JBL 12-speaker system and an 8” infotainment touchscreen. But for the money, the Chevrolet provides significantly more entertainment and driver-assist features than the Toyota.
